Family History Research

I can undertake specific research on an hourly basis, at a charge of £30 per hour of research and reporting (minimum 3 hours) plus out of pocket expenses, which I would agree with you before incurring them. Alternatively I can put together a bespoke family tree package tailored to your needs.

Examples of out of pocket expenses are purchasing birth, marriage or death certificates, fees for copying or photographing documents and postage costs. I do not charge travel costs to Hampshire or Berkshire Record Offices but do charge car parking fees where incurred (currently this only applies at Hampshire Record Office).

Specific Research

I undertake specific research on an ancestor, using various sources such as military records, wills and administrations, parish, employment, criminal and electoral records to provide an insight into their lives and perhaps solve a family mystery. I will provide a report detailing the research undertaken, findings and conclusions with recommendations for further research where appropriate.

I also investigate and look up records at Hampshire Record Office in Winchester and Berkshire Record Office in Reading along with The National Archives at Kew. This may be in-depth investigation into your family history, perhaps to break down that ‘brick wall’ in your research or to provide look-ups where you know what you want but need someone locally to obtain the information for you.

Family Tree Package

I can research one or more surname lines of a family tree for you or as a gift for someone else.

This research is initially based upon the use of the UK censuses for the decades from 1841 to 1911 along with General Registration Office Civil Registration indexes and records of births, marriages and deaths, which commenced in 1837 in England and Wales.

The research can be widened to include other and older sources, such as military records, parish records, probate records electoral rolls, workhouse records and many others. The availability of these will depend upon where your ancestors came from and what records have survived for them.

Many of these records can be found online while others may require visits to record offices. For the latter I can undertake such research at Hampshire Record Office, Berkshire Record Office and Surrey History Centre along with The National Archives at Kew.

I will provide a research report, pedigree chart, ancestral report and details of sources used. Copies of source documentation can also be provided where appropriate. This can be presented in an attractive folder which makes a great gift or a keepsake for yourself.

Please contact me and I can discuss your requirements with you.
